The Optimist is one of only 200 wine bottle designs chosen worldwide to represent the visual culture of wine in an exhibition presented by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA).

Greg Bennett, principal of Cut Once, designed The Optimist, a lovely and sophisticated play on “Is the glass half-full or half-empty?” with a sparing design that has an empty glass when the bottle is upright, but as one pours the wine into a glass, the graphic becomes a full glass — and if you look at the opening image above, you might notice that the full glass is not rendered in black ink, but it’s a tiny die-cut that reveals the bottle and its delicious content. Clearly, Greg has an eye for detail, and perhaps a little (healthy!) obsessiveness. — ARMIN VIT

How Wine Became Modern, Design + Wine 1976 to Now explored the visual culture of wine and its stunning transformation over the last three decades. Designed in collaboration with renowned architects Diller Scofidio + Renfro, the exhibition combines historical artifacts, architectural models, design objects, newly commissioned artworks, and enticing installations, including a "smell wall," to probe many aspects of wine culture, among them the globalization of wine, concepts of terroir, wine in popular media, and new strategies in label, glassware, and winery design.

Brighter Days Ahead was created to commemorate those affected by the southern California wildfires. The destruction of the wildfires is portrayed by physically making, photographing and then compositing various textures such as burnt paper, water stains, ash and grit. These elements are juxtaposed with beautiful illustrations of life occurring all around them. The beauty lies in the fact that life carries on. Even the scorched tree shows signs of new life through it’s sprouting buds. The text sprinkled throughout the poster are facts regarding the wildfires.

Following 6,444 submissions from 71 countries, this exhibit represents a critically shortlisted selection of posters (306 total) intended to provide an international review of the current state of design.

Be the Difference was designed to underscore how important every vote is. It was donated to AIGA‘s Get Out the Vote campaign which calls on designers worldwide to use the power of design to motivate the American public to register and turn out to vote in the general election, as well as local elections to come.

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
The Biennial of the Poster Bolivia BICeBé® is the most important international event of design and visual communication, as well as the window of Bolivian and Latin American design to the world. BICeBé® today is referenced as an integrator in the region.

Since 2009, BICeBé® promotes design excellence and education guidelines; and for that matter it has worked with the most prestigious education institutions of the country and the world.

The event is held every two years during the month of November; among its goals, the most relevant are: educate, integrate and project the national design to the world. Graphis has been publishing the world's most significant and influential works from the greatest talent in Design, Advertising, and Photography since 1944.

ABOUT OUR PROJECT
Katrina 1,836 was created to commemorate those affected by Hurricane Katrina. It was donated to The Hurricane Poster Project, an international collaboration of artists and designers to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Each participant was asked to design and produce a poster depicting their feelings about the events following Hurricane Katrina. The donated posters were then sold online, with all profits going to the Red Cross.

Our design’s intention is to evoke a sense of emotional disbelief about the simplest yet most unbelievable facts regarding the disaster. The font for 1,836 was set from a collection of antique wood type. The name Katrina was set in a modified version of Avenir. The background is made up of random textures that were collected over time and composited for this project.

ABOUT THE BOOK
The world’s problems have generally never changed and this book is a cry from some of the world’s top designers. The subjects confronted in this book include anti-war, anti-violence, the environment, disasters, human rights, health, and politics. There are also statements from numerous historic figures, such as Jefferson, Adams, Gandhi, Mandela and Eisenhower.

Winning posters are afforded a full-page presentation and all entrants will have their work permanently archived on our website. The Platinum, Gold and Silver award-winning posters are from numerous countries around the world. This book presents the power and voice of the poster.

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
The .918 Letterpress Ephemera Show will take place from Oct 18th through Nov 29th, 2013 at the Samford University Art Gallery in Birmingham, AL, USA.

The work in this international juried art show represents some of the most talented letterpress artists from around the world. Show Jurors include: internationally known consultant, instructor, and author Paul Moxon; letterpress printer and bookbinder Sarah Bryant from Brighton UK; and American graphic designer and educator Scott Fisk.

Ephemera is defined as any transitory written or printed matter not meant to be retained or preserved. Examples of letterpress printed ephemera include: posters, greeting cards, pamphlets, postcards, tickets and zines.

The name of this show is based on the fact that letterpress wood and metal type is made .918 inches tall.

Several projects created by Greg Bennett for various clients have been featured in Print Magazine's Regional Design Annuals: ‘13, ‘10, ‘08, ‘03, and ‘01.

At this event creative professionals and "paper-addicts," were able to network and view the latest papers, greatest printers and designer services from over 20 vendors.

Since Pulp, Ink and Hops is always held at a different venue, it seemed silly to overlook the fact that the National Electronics Museum would be the host for this year’s event. We felt reinforcing the unique venue along with the event would be an unexpected approach as opposed to the more obvious direction of doing something with pulp, ink and hops. The event concept started to become more clear as we began to research the museums artifacts and exhibits. We concluded a collage of electronics should become the primary visual for this poster. The result was an intricate robot collaged with many vintage artifacts from exhibits in the museum such as radios, telegraphs, glass vacuum radio tubes, radar displays, telegraph keys and a microphone.

Launched three days after the January 12th, 2010 Haiti earthquake, the Haiti Poster Project was a non-profit effort organized to help raise funds for victims affected by the disaster. Many donations were made and in exchange, the donor received a limited-edition poster of their choice. The posters were created and donated by designers from around the world. All funds raised went directly to Doctors Without Borders.

ABOUT OUR PROJECT
Hundreds of thousands of people were wounded, displaced, and killed as a result of 2010 Haiti earthquake. Many refer to Haiti as La Perle des Antilles which translates to the Pearl of the Caribbean. This statement is what inspired the primary visual for our poster. A pearl is symbolic of something precious that is sought after. We chose to use it to represent those who were missing, lost, and desperately sought after. We've incorporated several Easter eggs in our design, revealing facts about this earthquake and if you look closely, you may find a silhouette of Haiti's country.

BRIGHTER DAYS AHEAD
Brighter Days Ahead was created to commemorate those affected by the southern California wildfires. The destruction of the wildfires is portrayed by physically making, photographing and then compositing various textures such as burnt paper, water stains, ash and grit. These elements are juxtaposed with beautiful illustrations of life occurring all around them. The beauty lies in the fact that life carries on. Even the scorched tree shows signs of new life through it’s sprouting buds. The text sprinkled throughout the poster are facts regarding the wildfires. 

We are honored to be part of Good50x70 Anthology, a social communication project presented through 930 posters by graphic artists from around the world on subjects such as global warming, human rights, sexually transmitted diseases and other important social issues, created for various NGOs, charities, institutions and social volunteering organizations (including Amref, Amnesty International and Greenpeace) and collected by the Cultural Association Good Design. 

This anthology tells the history of the project - started in 2007 - through all the posters selected by an international jury of renowned graphic designers, including Massimo Vignelli and Alain Le Quernec, together with original texts and an illustrated account of the initiative. 

A reference book for whoever searches for a source for the communication of social causes, backed up by an online database with all 10,000 entries, and an inspiration for graphic studios and young graphic designers.

Good50x70 promotes ethical and social design, committed to the defense of human, civil and social rights and the protection of the environment. Designers and creatives from all around the world take part in this project with originality and different perspectives, spreading the message of change fostered by partner NGOs. Good50x70 gives the opportunity to learn about images stemming from unusual types of communication and which portray ideas in favour of a better future.

EXHBITION OVERVIEW
North Dakota State University Departments of English and Visual Arts/PEARS invited artists to submit original broadsides for a juried national exhibition held in conjunction with the David Martinson Honorary Broadside Workshop 2015. Broadsides were judged and selected works were displayed in Flakoll Gallery from March 11-­ April 3, with an opening reception and juror’s awards on Wednesday, March 11 from 6‐7 p.m.

2014 marked the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Baltimore and birth of the United States National Anthem. To honor this milestone, Baltimore organized the Star-Spangled Spectacular, a bicentennial celebration commemorating the Battle of Baltimore and the birth of the Star-Spangled Banner. 

In response to this celebration, the University of Baltimore (UB) organized an exhibition juried by Kit Hinrichs to showcase the most effective posters produced to commemorate this historical event. The exhibition took place from September 15, 2014 through October 31st, 2014.

There will also be an accompanying Beauty of Letterpress Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest, each showcasing the intricate nature of the craft and the incredible results of this printing technique.

The shootings on the campuses of Northern Illinois University and Louisiana Technical College earlier this year and the tragedy at Virginia Tech University last April brought a shocking reminder of how an ordinary, daily event can turn into tragedy. This tragedy illuminates, however, the generous human impulse to want to help those who have suffered loss.

In response to this tragedy, UCDA orchestrated a project by asking members and designers to design a poster that reflects some aspect of campus violence--the shock of the event itself, the heroism of the survivors, or the importance of crisis preparedness.

CASUALTIES OF THE CLASSROOM
Casualties of the Classroom was designed to act as a timeline documenting every incident that has occurred since 1966. It was donated to the UCDA Campus Violence Poster Project exhibition and then later auctioned off.

ABOUT OUR PROJECT
Katrina 1,836 was created to commemorate those affected by Hurricane Katrina. It was donated to The Hurricane Poster Project, an international collaboration of artists and designers to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Each participant was asked to design and produce a poster depicting their feelings about the events following Hurricane Katrina. The donated posters were then sold online, with all profits going to the Red Cross.

Our design’s intention is to evoke a sense of emotional disbelief about the simplest yet most unbelievable facts regarding the disaster. The font for 1,836 was set from a collection of antique wood type. The name Katrina was set in a modified version of Avenir. The background is made up of random textures that were collected over time and composited for this project.

The Urban Forest Project is a series of unprecedented outdoor exhibitions taking root in cities around the world. This unique environmental, public arts and educational initiative calls on artists, designers and students in each location to employ the idea or form of the tree to make a powerful visual statement on banners that are displayed throughout the community. 

The tree is a metaphor for sustainability and, in that spirit the banners at the close of each exhibition are recycled into totebags and auctioned off to raise money for a local environmental and urban forestry initiatives. The program can easily be adapted to address a number of green, educational and creative initiatives in a variety of ways to shape a project that is unique and expressive of the local community.

We participated in the Baltimore, Maryland exhibition which spanned all throughout Baltimore City into six area parks. This exhibition brought together artists, designers, college students, K-12 students and area businesses to create awareness for making Baltimore more sustainable. 

All proceeds from the project benefited the Baltimore City Department of Recreation & Parks Tree Baltimore Campaign for a greener city. Concept, illustration, and design donated by Cut Once.

A project created by Greg Bennett for Blair Corporation has been selected for a feature by Adweek. Blair Corporation, a consumer direct catalog company launched Allegheny Trail as a wholesale entity targeting the outdoor clothing market. The challenge was to convey a high profit margin to the outdoor apparel trade market. In order to get Allegheny Trail noticed, I created "He's/She's Cheap, We're Cheaper", a campaign which focused on the stories of eccentric ways of pinching pennies to reinforce the concept of cheap.

In addition to the Platinum, Gold, and Silver winners, Graphis also embraces rising talent, all of whom have an equal Archive presentation. In our hardcover Annuals, Platinum and Gold winners receive full-page exposure, and Silver and Merit Winners are also visually presented. Up to 500 entries from each competition are included in the online archive for future reference, where everyone gets the same presentation. Today, the Graphis tradition continues, presenting award-winning work from 1944 to the present in digital and print.
