Penn-Mar Human Services provides a range of educational, vocational and residential programs for more than 400 individuals with developmental disabilities across Northern Maryland and Southern Pennsylvania. Penn-Mar is viewed by many as innovative, compassionate, committed and client-centered with a well-established reputation.

CHALLENGE
Penn-Mar was in need of a brand refresh to better reflect the organization’s tone and style that had evolved in recent years to become more bold and simple — working to avoid industry “lingo” and striving to share information in easy, straightforward ways.

In 2019, Penn-Mar merged with Change, Inc. (another regional disabilities program provider), and the need to blend the two organizations accelerated the desire to rebrand. The merger provided an opportunity to create a fresh look and a bolder voice that speaks more directly to their brand promise, their commitment to innovative leadership, and the courageous spirit that is in their DNA.

Additionally, 2021 marked Penn-Mar’s 40th anniversary. And as the organization reflected on the past four decades — from its inception as an organization that served 12 families to the innovative services they offer to thousands today — the opportunity was ripe to rebrand with a look and feel that better reflected their growth and innovation.

Penn-Mar partnered with Cut Once to develop a bold, fresh, simple, and cohesive brand identity to unite Penn-Mar’s employees, locations, and brand promise.

STRATEGY
When Penn-Mar merged with Change, it was crucial to understand the cultures, missions and values of both organizations to determine cross-organizational core value alignment.

The six-month process was intentional, rigorous, and informative and engaged all stakeholders in interviews, surveys, and questionnaires to gather insights on how each sector perceived their respective organization. Both were viewed as innovative, compassionate, courageous, and committed — providing the foundation for Cut Once to develop the merged organizations’ essence in a fresh way under a single umbrella: Live Courageously. This new tagline encapsulates their unwavering support for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and empowers their team members, volunteers and families to be a part of something bigger than themselves and support a life well lived through a courageous spirit.

From Penn-Mar’s earliest days, the organization has been defined by passion, courage and strength — and that continued through the merger that, in their industry, is often uncharted territory and provides multiple challenges. But, Penn-Mar prevailed — and today, Penn-Mar’s communication efforts focus on emphasizing the people and the lives impacted, by highlighting the deep connections made within the communities.

RESULT
Cut Once translated this brand strategy into a bold new look for Penn-Mar Human Services, ushering in the next chapter of the organization's 40-year story of courage and commitment to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The updated visual and verbal brand identity program includes a new logo, updated color palette, targeted messaging, responsive CMS website, digital newsletter, social media, brand video, collateral, direct mail, apparel, graphic identifiers, and an empowering new tagline.

The new penn-mar.org website was designed with the courageous Penn-Mar community in mind, as well as the many people they hope to serve in the future. The site features robust resources that make connecting to Penn-Mar’s services and sharing in their mission simpler than ever. It’s also fully accessible, ensuring that everyone can navigate the site with ease. Most significantly, it’s a central hub celebrating the people with intellectual and developmental disabilities that Penn-Mar supports, their remarkable team members, and the many community members who make fulfilling the organization’s mission possible. Penn-Mar experienced 30,750 new visitors within the first 6 months of relaunch.

A brand-reveal video was created to visually tell the story of the “why” behind the new messaging, and to create excitement among their stakeholders about the future of the organization.

First, we needed a brand refresh that not only reflected our legacy of 40 years of providing innovative services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, but also inspired audiences to get excited about the future we envision for our community. In addition, the updated brand needed to incorporate the bold and simpler tones and styles we’ve adopted in recent years. Complicating things further, in 2019, Penn-Mar merged with another human services organization, Change, Inc., and folded them into the Penn-Mar brand. The addition of Change sped up our timeline for creating a fresh new look and feel, as we wanted to develop a brand identity that would unite all of the new Penn-Mar.

Perhaps most significantly of all, we also needed to create a fully accessible website that served multiple audiences: potential team members, people Penn-Mar supports and their families, potential new Penn-Mar individuals, our current team members, donors, and the general public. Our “Services” section alone, which details the variety of programs Penn-Mar offers to people with disabilities, was complex and extensive. Cut Once worked closely with us to create a design that met all our audiences’ needs and provided practical, useful information without the website becoming overwhelming and unwieldy. They also designed the new site in a way that allows for frequently changing updates and easy future expansion if needed. It has a wonderfully visually appealing style that achieves the exact user experience we intended.

Simultaneous to the website work, Cut Once led the rebranding process, which ultimately resulted in a refreshed brand identity that was met with practically unanimous excitement. They not only developed a slew of newly designed marketing materials, but also created a new logo and tagline that are a perfect fit for the organization.

The Department of Biomedical Informatics (DBMI) at Harvard Medical School partnered with Cut Once for assistance with branding RAISE, an international symposium which was designed to enable a transparent and public conversation to articulate the policy framework of AI in healthcare, including the pros and cons of distinct regulatory regimes that reflect the distinct values of the societies they serve. For example, one country may emphasize privacy while another stresses maximal data-sharing, or one country may favor aligning AI use with public health while another favors individual patient care.

RAISE took place in New England and was kept small (less than 150 invitees) so that all voices could be heard and engaged. The program included keynote addresses, panel discussions, and breakout sessions. The planned “output” was a framework document that outlines the tradeoffs along a spectrum of solutions to promote the ethical, equitable, and responsible application of AI to medicine internationally. Cut Once created the event logo, color palette, name tags, programs, posters, presentation slides, photo direction, and more.

THE CHALLENGE
In 2013, the Whiting School felt the publication’s design no longer reflected the dynamism and excitement of the school’s top-ranked programs and initiatives. The editorial architecture had become confusing and dull. The erosion of editorial integrity left too many opportunities for outside input. The covers didn’t entice readers to explore the content within. And everything from the table of contents to the design of feature stories needed an overhaul, both
aesthetically and functionally. 

READERSHIP INSIGHTS
We always recommend beginning the redesign process with a focused readership survey in order to gain the necessary insights into what matters most to the magazine’s target audiences. In John Hopkins Engineering’s case, this included the following audiences:

THE SOLUTION
JHU Engineering was redesigned from the ground up, to communicate the leadership and global impact of the Whiting School more effectively. From an editorial design and art direction standpoint, the departments are very visual, with shorter, punchier stories that allow the editors to more effectively capture the breadth of the engineering enterprise at Hopkins. The cover treatment sets the stage for the telling of the issue’s main feature story while teasing several other key stories each issue. 

The magazine opens to a dynamic, color-coded Table of Contents with feature story images that function as story teasers. The editorial architecture is clearly labeled, color-coded, simple and elegant. This clear organization and architecture provides defined buckets for content, and creates a clear, easy path for readers. The feature stories are the magazine’s crown jewels – showcased strongly with conceptual photography and illustration.

Cut Once supports the ongoing editorial, design, and art direction needs for JHU Engineering. The BWMC Foundation partnered with Cut Once to bring the organization’s mission to life for one of it's largest fundraising events of the year. This year's initiative, "The Power of Caring", aims to fund construction of a new Outpatient Care Center, add more private patient rooms and expand labor and delivery, interventional cardiology and medical oncology. At the same time, it will allow BWMC to invest in new programs, services and initiatives to promote health and well-being for the community.

Cut Once created custom-designed materials while adhering to the University of Maryland Medical System's Brand Standards. PA College partnered with Cut Once to raise the college’s institutional profile within the region and beyond, by showcasing the College’s “unparalleled” curricular offerings (in both nursing and health science programs) and its commitment to student-centered learning. 

To achieve this mission, we led the redesign of inPractice, Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences magazine. The newly conceived magazine, which debuted in Spring 2019, is now re-branded as PA College: Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences Magazine. In addition to a new name and new masthead, the publication’s editorial architecture, thoughtfully conceived by award-winning editorial consultant Sue De Pasquale, creates opportunities for strategic development of the content plan for each issue, which mindfully balances coverage of nursing and health science programs. The goal: to raise the College’s institutional profile within the region and beyond, and at establishing College faculty, leaders, and alumni as “thought leaders” within the world of health education.

The Women’s Board of The Johns Hopkins Hospital (WBJHH), a non-profit volunteer organization, has raised millions of dollars through hands-on work in presenting special events, managing hospital gift, thrift and coffee shops, and soliciting contributions from generous members of the community. Funds raised by the WBJHH provide grants to Johns Hopkins to improve patient care and contribute to medical and nursing scholarships. 

THE CHALLENGE
The WBJHH lacked compelling, effective messaging that connected with the target audiences; and, as a result, were not reaching their full potential as far as generating revenue and increasing impact on the communities served. We were challenged to bring the idea of “patient care” to life through more frequent, tangible, specific and compelling storytelling that illuminates why it really matters. 

THE SOLUTION
Cut Once started with preparing discovery questionnaires that were sent to both Board members and grantees to take a deeper dive into the Board’s current target audience perceptions, messaging and positioning within both the local Baltimore and hospital communities.

Based on the findings, Cut Once developed a branding strategy and campaign concept that better communicates the depth and breadth of the Board’s impact, allowing audiences to more fully understand the mission and better relate to the needs of patients and their families. And ultimately, feel compelled to donate to the ongoing fundraising efforts that positively impact patient care. 

The new messaging, “Become Part of the Transformation”, illustrates how direct donations and patronizing the Board’s in-hospital shops and fundraising events are transformed into a gift that goes directly to improving experiences for patients, doctors, and families alike. Cut Once also helped WBJHH write and cohesively agree upon a new tagline for the organization: Funding Advances in Patient Care since 1927.

Cut Once translated this strategy into multiple communication tools, including a fundraising awareness campaign, new tagline, website refresh, Facebook Ads, and hospital signage.

Earth Footwear, a leader in the footwear industry in the '70s celebrated its revival through a brand relaunch centered around the brand message of Different Like You. One of the key objectives was to position Earth as a modern lifestyle brand while drawing inspiration from it's legacy to fuel the brand's marketing initiatives. This was achieved by building an authentic asset library of photography driven by the storytelling thoughout Earth's Spring and Fall Consumer Catalogs as well as various other various marketing initiatives. Some of the other initiatives include brand artwork, various product line logos, and taglines which are used to support secondary product lines sold exclusively to select national retailers like JCPenney.

Brethren Village Retirement Community is a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) that provides care for residents 62 years of age and older. As a nonprofit corporation, the Village provides care, services and amenities in three areas of living, including independent residential living, personal care and skilled nursing. The Village occupies 153 acres of land in Manheim Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

The Brethren Village partnered with Cut Once to refresh some of the organization’s marketing materials. Services provided include the design refresh of the Residential Living Handbook, Campus Resource Directory, and an overall exploration of color story and photo art direction.

Haka clothing was not only inspired by Maori, but by New Zealand's entire sport culture as well. It thrives on the challenge of competition and is driven by performance in every sense of the word. This brand launch campaign consists of both full-page and quarter-page consecutive trade print ads, trade microsite, and a consumer launch ad.

The art direction for the Haka brand look was draws on the traditional Haka dance and ancient Maori tribal art. The brand expression was brought to life by blending the Maori culture with modern day athletes playing Rugby and people engaging in Parkour (the art of moving). Parkour is a discipline where participants move along a path and negotiate varying obstacles while defying gravity.

The mission of the Alliance for Cardiovascular Diagnostic and Treatment Innovation (ADVANCE) is to apply predictive computational modeling, data-driven approaches, and innovations in cardiac imaging to patient care, and specifically, to the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease.

ADVANCE will utilize innovations in clinical imaging, a novel disease-specific personalized computational modeling (Virtual Heart platform), and statistical and machine learning on clinical data to predict the functional behavior of the patient’s heart under a variety of conditions, and to suggest therapeutic approaches for heart rhythm disorders that are optimal for the given patient. This will engender accurate and precise clinical decision-making regarding personalized treatment and optimized cardiac patient care. Natalia Trayanova, Co-Director of ADVANCE, partnered with Cut Once to develop a visual concept that would make the formation of the new alliance understood by the world.

Now part of Penn Medicine, Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences is South Central Pennsylvania’s only college focused exclusively on health sciences, with more than two dozen academic programs serving 1,700+ students. Throughout the past century, PA College has grown from one nursing program with a handful of students to a thriving college offering more than 14 degree programs.

PA College partnered with Cut Once to raise the college’s institutional profile within the region and beyond, by showcasing the College’s “unparalleled” curricular offerings (in both nursing and health science programs) and its commitment to student-centered learning. The Counter Corps is a limited-edition men's and women's accessories and small leather goods company. Currently, The Counter Corps consists of two product lines, CeeC, accessories and small leather goods for men, and CeeCee, similar products for women.

TCC partnered with Cut Once to design the brand architecture, product line trademarks, product patterns, visual identity system, brand video animations, retail website, and email newsletter.

We utilized many unique features to bring this brand’s mission to life. For example, the business card system functions as a tangible interactive introduction to TCC’s mission and product lines. The website was designed to encourage the customer to have an intimate experience with the fashion designer’s journal in addition to functioning as an online retail storefront.

Reach to Recovery International is an independent non-profit organization that unites breast cancer support organizations throughout the world to help them raise awareness and understanding in their own communities, develop and operate support programs, and advocate for improved screening and treatments.

RRI partnered with Cut Once to create a fundraising campaign to help raise awareness of the organization’s purpose and mission. Breast cancer knows no boundaries, and neither should access to quality screening, treatment, and supportive care communicates the essence of the organization. Breast cancer is the same in every language.

Cut Once also led the transition the management of RRIs’ digital marketing materials from Cancer Council Queensland (CCQ) to an organization based out of Baltimore. Garden Spot Village is an active lifestyle retirement community in Lancaster county for adults over 55. The organization partnered with Cut Once to communicate the Community Benefits/Economic Impact that Garden Spot brings to the New Holland area. Now part of Penn Medicine, Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences is South Central Pennsylvania’s only college focused exclusively on health sciences, with more than two dozen academic programs serving 1,700+ students. Throughout the past century, PA College has grown from one nursing program with a handful of students to a thriving college offering more than 14 degree programs.

PA College partnered with Cut Once to raise the college’s institutional profile within the region and beyond, by showcasing the College’s “unparalleled” curricular offerings (in both nursing and health science programs) and its commitment to student-centered learning. To achieve this mission, we led the redesign of inPractice, Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences magazine. The newly conceived magazine, which debuted in Spring 2019, is now re-branded as PA College: Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences Magazine.

Blair Corporation, a consumer direct catalog company launched Allegheny Trail Apparel as a wholesale entity targeting the outdoor clothing market. The challenge was to convey a high profit margin to the outdoor apparel trade market. In order to get Allegheny Trail noticed, we created "He's/She's Cheap, We're Cheaper", a campaign which focuses on the stories of eccentric penny pinchers to reinforce the concept of extreme frugality.

The Battleship USS Arizona was bombed on December 7, 1941, about 15 minutes into the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, killing 1,177 sailors and Marines. Over 900 could not be recovered from the ship and remain onboard. Today, Arizona rests where she fell, submerged in about 40 feet of water just off the coast of Ford Island.

Designed by Honolulu architect Alfred Preis, the USS Arizona Memorial was built in 1962 on top of (but not touching) the sunken USS Arizona. The memorial honors the memory of the crew of the USS Arizona, as well as all the other service members and civilians killed in the attack. A total of 2,341 sailors, soldiers, and Marines died as a result of the attack, as well as 49 civilians.

Penn-Mar Human Services provides a range of educational, vocational and residential programs for more than 400 individuals with developmental disabilities across Northern Maryland and Southern Pennsylvania. 

THE CHALLENGE
The recruitment and retention of the Direct Support Professional (DSP) workforce is the single biggest challenge agencies like Penn-Mar have. Low wages, scant benefits, limited training and lack of career advancement opportunities have led to this challenge over the past 30 years for agencies across the country. However, while pay can be a real barrier to the profession, many will tell you that this job is a “calling”.

Penn-Mar did not strategically communicate with prospective and current employees in a way that made them feel valued. There was no unifying messaging strategy to encourage people to join their team or to make them feel connected to the organization after they joined. The “benefits” of working at Penn-Mar were communicated in an ad-hoc way and employees were not aware of the depth and breadth of what’s available to them as a part of the Penn-Mar team.

Penn-Mar partnered with Cut Once to develop an internal communications program directed at the organization’s DSPs – to speak to their hearts in a way that genuinely bonds them to joining, and staying with, the organization. 

THE SOLUTION
Cut Once hosted focus group sessions with Penn-Mar’s leadership and employee-representative teams to take a deep dive into the organization’s mission, core values, and current perceptions of Penn-Mar as an employer. Online surveys were also sent to all employees to provide further insight and understanding about the company culture.

Based on the findings of those efforts, Cut Once developed an internal branding strategy and campaign concept that better aligned with expected behaviors that support Penn-Mar’s values and mission, and identified new points of engagement and opportunities for communication. The new positioning, “Live Your Legacy: The better we do, the better we become”, reflects the values of honest communication, supportive collaboration, fair practices, innovative initiatives and a culture of excellence at all levels of the organization. 

Cut Once translated this strategy into multiple visual elements, including: campaign messaging, logo, website refresh, digital newsletter, branded video, direct mail, apparel, posters and flyers, and other graphic identifiers to be used throughout the organization’s communications efforts.

2014 marked the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Baltimore and birth of the United States National Anthem. To honor this milestone, Baltimore organized the Star-Spangled Spectacular, a bicentennial celebration commemorating the Battle of Baltimore and the birth of the Star-Spangled Banner. 

In response to this celebration, the University of Baltimore (UB) organized an exhibition to showcase the most effective poster design produced to commemorate this historical event. The exhibition took place from September 15, 2014 through October 31st, 2014.

The Urban Forest Project is a series of unprecedented outdoor exhibitions taking root in cities around the world. This unique environmental, public arts and educational initiative calls on artists, designers and students in each location to employ the idea or form of the tree to make a powerful visual statement on banners that are displayed throughout the community. 

The tree is a metaphor for sustainability and, in that spirit the banners at the close of each exhibition are recycled into totebags and auctioned off to raise money for a local environmental and urban forestry initiatives. The program can easily be adapted to address a number of green, educational and creative initiatives in a variety of ways to shape a project that is unique and expressive of the local community.

We participated in the Baltimore, Maryland exhibition which spanned all throughout Baltimore City into six area parks. This exhibition brought together artists, designers, college students, K-12 students and area businesses to create awareness for making Baltimore more sustainable. 

All proceeds from the project benefited the Baltimore City Department of Recreation & Parks Tree Baltimore Campaign for a greener city. Concept, illustration, and design donated by Cut Once.

The design unit within Academy for Educational Development (AED) utilized the talents of Cut Once to produce an interpretation of "Design Ignites Change", AED’s battle cry to the world. AED is a nonprofit organization working globally to improve education, health, civil society and economic development--the foundation of thriving societies. Now part of Penn Medicine, Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences is South Central Pennsylvania’s only college focused exclusively on health sciences, with more than two dozen academic programs serving 1,700+ students. Throughout the past century, PA College has grown from one nursing program with a handful of students to a thriving college offering more than 14 degree programs.

PA College partnered with Cut Once to raise the college’s institutional profile within the region and beyond, by showcasing the College’s “unparalleled” curricular offerings (in both nursing and health science programs) and its commitment to student-centered learning. To achieve this mission, we led the redesign of inPractice, Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences magazine. The newly conceived magazine, which debuted in Spring 2019, is now re-branded as PA College: Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences Magazine.

Donated by designers and artists around the globe, posters sold at the So-Cal Fire Poster Project raised funds for victims of the wildfires that devastated Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Diego Counties in 2007. Modeled after the Hurricane Poster Project, an effort started for victims of Hurricane Katrina, all proceeds were donated to the Salvation Army, for the 2007 California Wildfire fund.

This poster, created by Greg Bennett, commemorates those affected by the fires and portrays the destruction with a photographic composition of textures (burnt paper, water stains, ash and grit) juxtaposed by beautiful illustrations of new signs of life and an emboss to highlight the bird. The text sprinkled throughout the poster is facts relating to the fires.

Production Notes: The poster was printed in a limited-edition, four-color process, offset on Mohawk Superfine Softwhite Recycled Smooth 80 lb cover, with a finished size of 24" X 36".

The Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival is one of the Mid-Atlantic's largest film festivals and is held in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. The creative strategy for this years event branding was to combine icons from both film and beach cultures into an artistically collaged image unique and true to this festival. Good50x70 promotes ethical and social design, committed to the defense of human, civil and social rights and the protection of the environment. Designers and creatives from all around the world take part in this project with originality and different perspectives, spreading the message of change fostered by partner NGOs. Good50x70 gives the opportunity to learn about images stemming from unusual types of communication and which portray ideas in favour of a better future.

Good 50x70 is organised under the Patronage of Unesco, Segretariato Sociale Rai, Fondazione Pubblicità Progresso; the Patronage and contribution of local institutions: Comune di Milano, Provincia di Milano and Regione Lombardia. The project is also endorsed by the international association AGI and ICOGRADA and the national associations ADI and AIAP.

The Hurricane Poster Project was an international collaboration of artists and designers to raise funds for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Each participant was asked to design and produce a poster depicting their feelings about the events following Hurricane Katrina. The donated posters were then sold online to benefit the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

This poster, created by Greg Bennett, commemorates those affected by the hurricane and portrays the destruction with a photographic composition of textures (water beads, stains, mold and grit) emphasized by various symbols including a voodoo doll, skull, wings, and distressed typography. The text sprinkled throughout the poster is facts relating to the hurricane.

Production Notes: This poster was printed in a limited-edition, four-color process, offset on Finch Fine Uncoated 100 lb cover, with a finished size of 24" X 36".

AIGA, the professional association for design, commissioned Cut Once to create marketing materials to help promote Pulp, Ink and Hops, Maryland's largest paper show. At this event creative professionals and "paper-addicts," were able to network and view the latest papers, greatest printers and designer services from over 20 vendors.

Since Pulp, Ink and Hops is always held at a different venue, it seemed silly to overlook the fact that the National Electronics Museum would be the host for this year’s event. We felt reinforcing the unique venue along with the event would be an unexpected approach as opposed to the more obvious direction of doing something with pulp, ink and hops. The event concept started to become more clear as we began to research the museums artifacts and exhibits. We concluded a collage of electronics should become the primary visual for this poster. The result was an intricate robot collaged with many vintage artifacts from exhibits in the museum such as radios, telegraphs, glass vacuum radio tubes, radar displays, telegraph keys and a microphone.

Morse code became the second language throughout this piece because Morse code is one of the prominent exhibits in the communications gallery of the museum. Morse code also added an interactive element which engaged and challenged the viewer to use the Morse code decoder key on the back of the poster to decode various messages throughout this piece. Fun fact, the first Morse code message was sent from Washington DC to Baltimore.

Penn-Mar Human Services provides a range of educational, vocational and residential programs for more than 400 individuals with developmental disabilities across Northern Maryland and Southern Pennsylvania.

Penn-Mar partnered with Cut Once to design and develop a sustainable online annual report solution that would be usable for years to come. Cut Once worked closely with Penn-Mar to identify areas of significant organizational impact and create a user experience enriched with brave stories of success. The clients’ request was to design a system of event materials that would commemorate Jamie’s sacred and special day as well as, deliver a uniquely-tailored celebratory experience for her family and friends to enjoy. The event was held at John Shield's Gertrude's at the Baltimore Museum of Art.

The underlying visual theme was a contemporary interpretation of the number 56, Jamie’s prized lacrosse number. It was kept abstract so that it would be interpreted more as typographic art and would be a talking point for the family if anyone asked.

No detail was overlooked, from the paper specified for the invitation (Neenah's Eames Painting Canvas) to all the support components such as thank you cards, directional signage for the museum, environmental graphics and Moleskine sketchbooks and Faber-Castell sketching pencils as gifts for the kids. The invitation was hand finished by a calligrapher, who styled her writing to match our typographic direction.

The invitation system consists of the outer envelope, an outer shell which houses all internal components, a cover card, invitation, ‘Party to Follow’ card, directions, rsvp card and rsvp envelope. It was printed 2-color on Neenah's Eames Painting Canvas Finish paper line.

Now part of Penn Medicine, Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences is South Central Pennsylvania’s only college focused exclusively on health sciences, with more than two dozen academic programs serving 1,700+ students. Throughout the past century, PA College has grown from one nursing program with a handful of students to a thriving college offering more than 14 degree programs.

PA College partnered with Cut Once to raise the college’s institutional profile within the region and beyond, by showcasing the College’s “unparalleled” curricular offerings (in both nursing and health science programs) and its commitment to student-centered learning. To achieve this mission, we led the redesign of inPractice, Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences magazine. The newly conceived magazine, which debuted in Spring 2019, is now re-branded as PA College: Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences Magazine.

The original metal Slinky has been made in the USA since 1945. It was invented by Richard James while he was conducting various experiments with springs. This photo study explores and celebrates the various forms of the Slinky.

Launched three days after the January 12th, 2010 Haiti earthquake, the Haiti Poster Project was a non-profit effort organized to help raise funds for victims affected by the disaster. Many donations were made and in exchange, the donor received a limited-edition poster of their choice. The posters were created and donated by designers from around the world. All funds raised went directly to Doctors Without Borders.

ABOUT OUR PROJECT
Hundreds of thousands of people were wounded, displaced, and killed as a result of 2010 Haiti earthquake. Many refer to Haiti as La Perle des Antilles which translates to the Pearl of the Caribbean. This statement is what inspired the primary visual for our poster. A pearl is symbolic of something precious that is sought after. We chose to use it to represent those who were missing, lost, and desperately sought after. We've incorporated several Easter eggs in our design, revealing facts about this earthquake and if you look closely, you may find a silhouette of Haiti's country.

Located just off of a Lincoln Highway (Route 30) in York, Pennsylvania sits a shoe-shaped house known world-wide as the the Haines Shoe House. It was originally built in 1948 by "The Shoe Wizard" Mahlon Haines to serve as a disruptive, three-dimensional advertisement for his shoe company. Today, it functions as a tourist attraction where visitors can take a tour or enjoy a ice cream and other tasty treats.
