This invitation was designed to invite friends and family to Jake Benett Martinez Kaplan Shlomo Benjumin’s baby naming ceremony. If you counted six names you are correct. In the Jewish religion, a baby naming is a ceremony to give the baby a Hebrew name in addition to his/her English name. Rather than simply setting the names in order on a single card which is the traditional approach Greg chose to create an interactive step-by-step reveal of baby Jake’s names. This was achieved by using transparency film and placing all of his names in order from top to bottom using only one name per piece of film. The bottom card was used for the remaining information.
Poster designed for the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) to promote Baltimore’s largest paper show which was held at the National Electronics Museum.
Greg Bennett designed The Optimist, a lovely and sophisticated play on “Is the glass half-full or half-empty?” with a sparing design that has an empty glass when the bottle is upright, but as one pours the wine into a glass, the graphic becomes a full glass — and if you look at the opening image above, you might notice that the full glass is not rendered in black ink, but it’s a tiny die-cut that reveals the bottle and its delicious content. Clearly, Greg has an eye for detail, and perhaps a little (healthy!) obsessiveness. — ARMIN VIT
The Optimist is one of only 200 wine bottle designs chosen worldwide to represent the visual culture of wine in an exhibition presented by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA).
